1999-P Kookaburra $2 2 oz .999 Silver Coin in original square capsule BU
The Australian Kookaburra was first issued by The Perth Mint in 1990 and is Australia's longest-running silver coin series. The laughing kookaburra on the reverse is redesigned every year (the 2015 issue revived the original 1990 artwork for the 25th anniversary). Annual 1 oz mintage was capped at 300,000 from 1990 to 2010 and at 500,000 from 2011. Coins were struck in .999 fine silver through 2017 and in .9999 fine silver from 2018.
The 1999 reverse features two kookaburras perched together on a branch, with the P100 mintmark for the Perth Mint's centenary.
The 2 oz size is where this date gets interesting: The Perth Mint declared a 2 oz mintage of just 20,602, making it one of the scarcer pieces in the series and a date collectors chase when building a complete Kookaburra set.
