A little history

The Royal Canadian Mint opened in Ottawa in 1908 as a branch of Britain's Royal Mint and became fully Canadian in 1931. Its Silver Maple Leaf, launched in 1988, was one of the first silver bullion coins struck in .9999 fine silver. Newer Maple Leafs carry radial lines and a tiny micro-engraved maple leaf as security features.
